Sturt Lacrosse Club: 4 Seniors, 10 Players, 100% Unconstitutional - Lacrosse SA's Quota System Must Be Abolished!

As President of Sturt Lacrosse Club, I'm beyond frustrated. The rules imposed by Lacrosse SA are not just illogical; they're a direct attack on our club and a blatant disregard for their own constitution. We're dealing with a system that's not just unfair, it's absurd.

Let's get straight to the point: the core issue is the senior player quota. While Lacrosse SA claims to have "helped" by reducing it to 40% from the original 50%, the reality is that the entire system is broken. And here's the most egregious example: We've been told that if we only have four senior players, we are restricted to fielding a maximum of ten players.

Four Seniors, Ten Players: A Ridiculous, Damaging Rule

Four seniors. Ten players. That's the cold, hard reality we're facing. This isn't a hypothetical scenario; it's a direct consequence of Lacrosse SA's rigid and nonsensical quota system. It doesn't matter if we have a roster full of eager and talented junior players. It doesn't matter if we're ready to compete. If we have only four seniors, we're capped at ten players.

This is utterly unacceptable. This is a direct contradiction of Lacrosse SA's stated constitutional objectives. How can we promote participation when we're actively denying our junior players the chance to play? How can we ensure fair competition when we're handicapping our club with an arbitrary player limit? How can we prioritise player welfare when we're forcing our athletes to play with a dangerously thin bench?

"Help" That Hurts: The Quota Must Go

Lacrosse SA's "help" is a farce. The 40% quota is still a burden, and the 4-senior/10-player restriction is the final nail in the coffin. We're not asking for a slightly less restrictive version of an unconstitutional rule; we're demanding the complete abolition of the quota system.

Sturt's Unwavering Demand: Restore Fairness, Uphold the Constitution

As President of Sturt Lacrosse Club, I'm calling on Lacrosse SA to immediately:

  • Completely remove the senior player quota. Both the 50% and 40% versions are unacceptable.

  • Abolish the 10-player limit. Clubs must be allowed to field teams based on their player availability.

  • Commit to upholding their own constitution. Equitable competition, increased participation, and player welfare must be prioritised.

We're tired of being given "helpful" variations of rules that are fundamentally flawed. We're tired of being told to fit into a system that doesn't work for us. We're demanding real change, and we're demanding it now. Four seniors, ten players – this is not lacrosse. This is a bureaucratic nightmare, and it must end.
